Rocket Rocker Newz for 1/28/2010

What Do AC/DC and Robert Downy Jr Have In Common???

And I means besides being extremely talented and around for years. Try this on for size: Iron Man. That's right, ACDC is releasing the official soundtrack to Iron Man 2, and the set will be cleverly titled "AC/DC: Iron Man 2."

Its a unique collaboration between Marvel Studios and Columbia Records, and the soundtrack for the sequal to 2008's blockbuster will feature 15 classic AC/DC hits ranging from 1976 to 2008.

It drops April 19th.

Muse's Tour Documentary

Inspired by Nirvana, Muse's bassist Chris Wolstenholme told Australia's Triple J radio station that the band wants to do "Something a little bit more like Nirvana's Live!Tonight! Sold Out! I think that was one of the best documentaries I've ever watched." We'll be waiting Chris, we'll be waiting....

What's With All the Cover Songs????

Really. Korn, Word Up. In This Moment, Call Me. Mushroomhead, Crazy. Seether, Careless Whisper. And it looks like we may be adding another one to the list very soon. Peter Gabriel recently dropped in a podcast on his website that "Thom wanted to do a version of Wallflower, which I'm very curious to hear. Radiohead covering Wallflower. Wow. I look forward to the end result.

Finger Eleven is Hitting The Studio Again.............

After 2007's Them Vs. You Vs. Me, its seems Finger Elven took a bit of a break. And now it looks like that break is over. And leave it to Twitter to break the happy news. "I forgot how much I lack the patience for studio life" and unknown band member tweeted last week. Want more infor? There are about a thousand more band tweets to get to up to date.

Aerosmith Is Looking For New Frontman, BUT Steven Is Doing Just Fine........

Fine enough even to serenade an entire store full of customers at Home Depot! In Rancho Mirage, CA, Tyler grabbed the PA system microphone in the local Home Depot and proceeded to sing "Dude Looks Like A Lady" and "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" a capella. He then took a few hits of helium and continued his surprise performance in a high pitched voice. F*&k Aerosmith without you Steven!!!! You rock!

Rocket Rocker Newz for 1/25/2010

Ozzy's At It Again.........

Rolling Stone is reporting that Ozzy is in the final stages of recording a new solo album. It was originally going to be called Soul Sucka, but Ozzy apparently had a change of heart. And apparently the fan's helped the re-think. Seems when they posted the new title online, fans weren't digging it. "F*&k it, I've got to come up with something else," Ozzy stated after the fan reaction. The new, as of yet untitled, album is due out in July....the same month that Ozzy says Ozzfest will be returning after a 1-year break.

Rocket Rocker Newz for 1/22/10

Jane's Addiction Is Recording New Stuff.....But Not ALL of Them Are In On It.....

Earleir this week, the band announced that they were getting to work on new material in the studios. But, it looks like the material did not spawn a full renuion for Jane's Addicition. Leave it to Twitter to be the bearer of this kind of news. Eric Avery tweeted recently, "fyi, to answer the question directly, I am not writing with janes addiction." Makes ya wonder about the future of the band now, huh?

Is It Just Me, Or Is SNL Having Some Kick Ass Musica Guests These Days???

LedZeppelinNewz.com is reporting that rock uber-group Them Crooked Vultures are set to perform on Saturday Night Live February 6th.

Shinedown on Alice

Shinedown has a new track, "Her Name is Alice," written exclusively for the soundtrack "Almost Alice" for the new Alice in Wonderland movie. The album will be hitting store March 2nd. Check out what Shinedown's Brent had to say about it:
"Lewis Carroll wrote, in our opinion, one of the most imaginative pieces of literature ever published (Alice in Wonderland). He created a world of pure beauty and chaos all wrapped up into story of nonsense that, oddly enough, makes total sense. 'Her Name Is Alice' was an honor to write as it expresses how the story and the movie inspired us to create the song. Imagination is a powerful thing and we think that everyone should dream a little bit more and stare thru their own looking glass…..just like Alice."

Rocket Rocker Newz for 1/19/10

Hey hey rockers! Hope you enjoyed the long weekend (if you got one!).......I know I did:-) But, when I take some down time, that always means there's a ton of stuff to catch up on when I get back. So be ready, its a heavy set for your Rocket Rocker Newz today!

No-Names Need Not Apply for Steven Tyler's former position....

Well, the rumors are still flying, but it looks like they have some solid insight this time around. Aerosmith is still moving forward with plans to replace Steven Tyler as their frontmant. *Gasp*  But before you get your rock-star hopes up, Joe Perry has gone on record saying that they are officially looking for someone who has already made a anme for themselves. "In order for both parties to get something out of this, to move things along musically, it's important to get somebody who's a legitimate headliner of their own, " Perry stated in a recent interveiw with TheGolbeAndMail.com. My question: what legitimate headliner is going to be willing to fill the very big shoes (and lips) of Steven Tyler??? Good luck with that Perry.

New STP Album is in the works!!!

"We just finished two songs at my home studio, and we're going through the editing process and getting everything sounding tasty," Robert DeLeo let slip in an interveiw with Spin.com.

Nothing better than hearing it straight form the artist's mouth.

Avenged Sevenfold frontman Says Goodbye to "The Rev"

M. Shadows paid tribute to hid friend and bandmate, James "The Rev" Sullivan in a new tear-jerking online post at www.avengedsevenfold.com.

“I don’t know how to start this or know where to begin. First I would like to thank all the fans for their support through the passing of Jimmy. It has been comforting to see his fans, our fans, and everyone in general give their support. Jimmy was my best friend, as he was best friends with many other people including the members of Avenged Sevenfold. He was hands down the greatest person I have ever known. I told him I loved him everyday. He demanded your love and was never afraid to give it back. I have walked side by side with Jimmy, everyday, for the last 18 years of my life. I have no memories before Jimmy, and it’s going to be damn hard to move forward without him here.
“It still doesn’t seem real. He was my best friend, songwriting partner, band mate, confidant, and most importantly, he was my brother. The crazy thing about Jimmy was that everyday was a crazy story. We have told our favorite Jimmy stories for the last two weeks and never have we repeated ourselves. This guy was magical. The out pour of art from his soul was unlike the world has ever seen. Unless you spent a day with Jimmy, or 18 years, it’s impossible to explain, so I’m not going to try.
“He inspired people in different ways. He wasn’t just a drummer, he honestly didn’t care so much for the technical side of drums, cause he could play anything he wanted. He was all about creating beautiful songs, original fills and hopefully touching people with his art and mind. He told all of us for years, including his parents, that he knew two things in life. He wanted to be a rockstar, and that he wasn’t going to live past 30 years old. He was right on both accounts, but I know Jimmy, and if he knew how much pain this would cause for the ones he left behind, he would have done anything he could to stick around a little longer. Jimmy gave so much and in the end it was his time to go. All my reasons for wanting him to stay are selfish and I know he is in a better place then this, so in a way I’m joyful that my best friend is now at peace. He made it to the other side first and I can’t wait to hang with him again.
“I have so much to say but can’t find the words so I will wait until time can allow me to find a way to express myself. As for the rest of us, it has become clear what we need to do. We had just finished writing a record with Jimmy. I can’t promise what the future holds because right now it’s too painful to think about, but we know we need to record and put out this record in honour of Jimmy, for Jimmy. He would call me every night to talk about songs and tell me ‘this shit is gonna change the world.’ I agreed with him, unfortunately I didn’t know it would be on these terms.
“Please be patient with us for we cannot imagine how hard this is gonna be to get through, we just know we have to do it for his legacy. After that, who knows? But I know Jimmy will help us make that decision when the time comes. I love you Jimmy and I feel like the luckiest man in the world to have known you and spent 18 years of my life with you. Rest in Peace my friend.
“M. Shadows.”

 Serj's Solo Orchestral Release..........

Blink 182 Coming Back????

It appears so. They're hitting the studios next month for their next album, and they are making a Blinkumentary about it!!!! Check out the trailer....
]

Strokes New Album!!!

A fourth studio album is the the works for The Strokes, according to frontman Julian Casablancas. He says they are working day and night on the project....which amazes me considering Casablancas' own solo endevors as of late. And he reports that the band seems to have finally begun to pull in the same direction. But no matter the direction they pull, no word yet on any time-frame for the album release.

System of a Down Reuniting!!! (???) *yes, I'm supressing fan-girl squeels*

System of a Down's bassist is teasing me.

"Are you guys ready for System???" This was Shavo Odadijian's latest Twitter post.

Now rumors of a reunion have abounded since pretty much the day after the band split. Serj Tankien took off on his own, and last Novemeber 3 of the band members joined the Deftones on stage for a benefit gig for Deftone's bassist Chi Cheng (who is still in a Coma).

So I'm hoping that Shavo isn't just have a typical rocker moment and getting our hopes up in the process.

Stone Sour Recording A New Album

The band made the announcement today that they are returning to the studios to work on their newest album in 4 years. Honestly, I'm not surprised. I was getting a little worried that Corey Taylor was taking Slipknot in too soft of a direction.....that's what you have Stone Sour for Corey. They'll begin recording their 3rd album in the Blackbird Studio in Nashville with Grammy award winning producer, Nick Raskulinecz.

Official Press Release on Slayer Cancellation.........

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BACK SURGERY SCHEDULED FOR SLAYER'S TOM ARAYA, BAND'S TOUR PLANS CANCELLED THROUGH APRIL
Slayer Camp Working Hard to Reschedule Dates for Later This Year

Los Angeles, CA - Thursday, January 7, 2010 -- "Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot," said Slayer's manager Rick Sales, "but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month."

This difficult decision made by the band's bassist/vocalist Tom Araya means the cancellation of Slayer's immediate tour plans that include the American and Canadian Carnage Tour dates that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's UK/European headline tour scheduled for March and April.  Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling the tour dates; tickets already purchased for these shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.

The headbanging Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October.  In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures.  While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms.  The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.

Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people - the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans - Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."

SLAYER HAS CANCELLED!!!!

*insert uncontrollable crying here*

It's true. Araya, Slayer's bassist/vocalist is having back surgery. And this means we get no North American Carnage Tour.Booking agents are scrambling to reschedule, but I don't put alot of faith into it.

A Collaboration Made In.....Wonderland???

Leave it to Twitter to have the latest breaking Rock news today. Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 has been leaving some very cryptic tweets lately. Something about a collaberation. Honestly, I didn't think twice about it with the first weird tweet. But now, the light is shining and it all makes sense with his latest post:

"The song that PeteW and I collabed on is for the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack."

Fall-Out-Boy frontmant, Pete Wentz also confirmed the same info when he emailed MTV stating the the collaberation was ready for the soundtrack, which will also include a new song from All Time Low.

Disney has no official track listing for the movie's soundtrack as of yet, but they say it'll be only a few more weeks before it becomes official.

So What Is Korn's New Stuff Gonna Sound Like???

Apparently a lot like the old stuff.  At least according to Jonathan Davis in a recent interview with Blabbermouth.net.Which has me salivating for the new album now. Click HERE for the full scoop.

"Snuff" Film.....hehehe, sorry. I couldn't resist.

Slipknot has release a short film for their song "Snuff", from their latest album All Hope Is Gone. As of January 12th, you'll be able to purchase the film via iTunes. Or you watch it all you want right here:-)

Has It Really Been 20 Years of Bad Religion?

Yes, yes it has. Damn. But in honor of its 20th Anniversary since its release, Bad Religion has repressed their full-length 1990 album, Against The Grain, on vinyl.

Mastadon Is Going Hollywood

The band has signed on to write the score of a new comic book movie based in DC Comic "Jonah Hex." Rumors are rolling that Josh Brolin and Megan Fox are in lines to star in the film. Oh joy.

Rocket Rocker Newz for 1/6/10

Happy hump-day everyone! I hope it lives up to its name for ya! :-)Here's whats crackin' in the world of rock:

Puddle of Mudd Talks Spaceship

Altitude TV caught Wes Scantlin and Paul Phillips of Puddle of Mudd not to long ago. They talked  touring with Shinedown and Skillet, Wes's broken foot, and most importantly the new video for Spaceship!!!! *I will try to supress any fan girl screaming on air, I promise. *

Metallica's Dropping Prices!!!.....on real estate....

Kirk Hammett, Metallica's lead guitarist, put his four-story rocker mansion on the market back in March of 2007. The original asking price? Not a note lower than the fine tune of $12.5 million. *insert wolf whistle here* But apparnelty, that was just too much. Finally...he dropped the price down $8.995 million. But it still took some time, and negotiations. The estate has finally sold, but the final price has been undisclosed. Make me think he had to drop even farther for a final sale. Definately a buyers market out there!

Muse Is Kickin' Ass and Taking Names....

According to the Alternative Rock Chart from Mediabase, Muse is playing hardball in the rock world. They've been sitting at #1 for 18 consecutive weeks now. They have officially broken the record for the loongest run at No. 1 in the history of the chart, held previously by The Foo Fighters. That's not the only place they are bringing they're A-game. Muse also recently won the Best Art Vinyl for 2009 for The Resistance artwork.

Chris Cornell Is Pissed..........(what is it this time?)

Okay okay, I give it to him...he might actually have a reason to have his panties in a twist this time. Looks like a stolen video of his 2004 wedding has ended up for sale....on Craigslist. The video itself was actually be advertised as "lost" footage of Britney Murphey, who was maid of honor in the ceremony in 2004, and was found dead in her Hollywood home late last month. Blabbermouth.net has reported that the offending video has been removed, but that the Soundgarden frontman is persuing legal actioan against the vendor of the video.

The button pushing Monkey!!!!

monkey Pictures, Images and Photos

We've named him Ham....in honor of the first monkey ever strapped to a rocket by NASA. According to one beloved listener...who goes by the name of Frank N Beans .....Ham is responsible for ALL the awesomeness that is The Rocket 99.5. Ham is the button-pushing monkey who chills in the studio for the 19 hours that I'm not on air and makes sure stuff runs smooth.

So.....ALL HAIL HAM!!!!!

Work and Exercise!

this cracked me up:-) Hopefully your workplace isn't like this:-)

Rocket Rocker Newz for 1/5/10

Holy crap....just so you guys know, writing 2010 has been the bane of my existence for the past 5 days! Any-who....here's what's up in the rock world...

Brett Michaels Announces.....wait for it.....Another Reality Show!!!! (Duhhhh)

Yes yes, surprise surprise. What I found funny? Apparently Poison has broken up. At least according to the Associated Press when they called him the former singer of Poison. But let's face it....anyone could make the same assumption when comparing his Reality TV time to his actually Poison time. So what's next for the unlucky-in-love Brett? I'll try not to gag as I type this....Celebrity Apprentice Season 3. *choking back the giggles*

Sorry, I can't even type the title of the show without imagining Trumps's hair-peice turning into one of those furry things (Tribbles) form the old school Star Trek series.

But back to Brett... looks like he's not alone in his desperate grab for more reality-based attention. The Rock of Love star will be facing off with Sharon Osbourne,  some TV chef named Curtis Stone, baseball rockstar Darryl Strawberry, Sinbad, wrestler Goldberg,  and many more. Apprently Brett is already dubbing himself the show underdog. Again, surprise surprise. The show will premeir Sunday, March 14th on NBC with a special 2-hour episode. Oh joy, oh joy.

Chevelle Announces More Tour Dates

Didn't get enough of them at Club 101 back in October? Well tough. Cuz from what I've been looking at, it doesn't look like they'll be heading back to Souther NM anytime soon. So why do I even bring it up? To tease you of course! And to complain.....looks like Three Days Grace and Flyleaf have agreed to open for the first three dates on the list. Nice line up. Check out full tour dates at Chevelle's myspace. Now excuse me while I try to mask the scent of jealousy permeating from my studios.

The Big Four of Thrash

F*#k you Europe!!!!!!! In more newz spawned by my jealousy, I am green-eyed to announce that The Big Four of Thrash are uniting for one epic metal show.....in Switzerland. The flyer says it all. Any rich rockers out there feel like sponsoring their favorite Rock Jock in a European adventure???

So anytime you need to know what vital happenings are warping  your rock universe, one stop and you'll be set! Enjoys rockers, enjoy:-)

Rocket Rocker Newz

Knights of the Soundtable

Are you a Knight of the Soundtable??? Well if you are, you are in for one hell of an update. Soundgarden is reuniting! Really! Which is hard to believe when you take into account that very recently, Chris Cornell compared reuniting Soundgarden with "playing in the back of a Chinese resteraunt." But we all know Chris is all ego, and his talk never walks the walk....because despite Cornell's disparraging comments, the Seattle rockers are gearing back up for the fans! And Chris took to his Twitter recently so say, "The 12 year break is over and school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!"   Visit www.soundgardenworld.com for more deatails on the reunion and fan opprotunities.

Godsmack Frontman Smacked with Millions in Car Crash Settlement

So if you want millions of dollars, get in a car wreck with a rock star. Godsmack's frontman, Sully Erna, recently settled in the multimillion dollar range for an accident he was involved in back in April of 2007, now they are just waiting for the judge to finalize the whole thing. Lindsay Taylor, 27 suffered a sever brain injury in the 3 car accident when she was riding in the backseat of the car Erna rear-ended, according to her court documents. Wanting a new Godsmack album? Yeah, we wish....looks like it could take even longer now.

Testament To Play Entire Album during North American Carnage Tour!

For this story, I bring you the interveiw of Testament's frontman, Chuck Billy, provided by KNAC.com:
"Last night we just made a crucial decision, so you're going to be the first exclusive to hear. We decided last night that instead of putting -becuase we only have a 40-minute-set to pick- instead of playing a medley of songs, we decided we're going to the entire The Legacy record start to finish, it its entiretly for the show.

So there you go! Can't wait to rock it on 1/27 at the El Paso County Collesuim!
